Rules and Conditions

All artists submitting their work for Art in the Workplace (AWP) exhibits at McMaster Innovation Park (MIP) must agree to and abide buy the rules and conditions stated below:

  • All exhibited work must be original art for which the artist(s) is sole owner of copyright.

  • Artists grant McMaster Innovation Park (MIP) a non-exclusive worldwide license to commission and publish photographs of each of the exhibited works for MIP’s own promotional and educational purposes for a five year term beginning upon acceptance of artwork for the exhibit. Exhibiting artists, for the term of said license, waive all moral right for said works in favour of MIP for these purposes.

Guidelines for Submission

  • Do not submit work that has appeared in a previous AWP exhibit.

  • Unless you are the featured artist for an exhibit, no more than two artworks may be submitted by each artist.

  • If you are submitting more than one work, we are more likely to accept both if they would go well together (similar in size and medium).

  • All accepted work must be delivered to the Atrium at MIP on the specified date and time ONLY.

  • All participating works must remain on display for the duration of the exhibition.

  • After the exhibition has closed, all exhibited work must be picked up on the specified time and date ONLY.

  • MIP may, in its sole discretion, remove any work from the exhibition at any time.

Care and Responsibility for the artwork

  • AWP accepts no responsibility and will not insure works delivered before the appointed time for delivery or remaining at MIP after the appointed time for the work’s removal.

  • Delivery and pick up of all work, including the costs and risks associated with transportation of these works are the sole responsibility of the artists.

  • Artists must remove all wrapping materials from the premises at at the time of drop off. AWP will not be responsible for keeping this material or wrapping any art for pick up.

  • AWP will take all reasonable care of the participating works during the hanging, showing and take-down of the exhibition.

  • Any work damaged while in the care and custody of AWP/MIP will be assessed by a professional art conservator. Any repairs required will either be performed by a professional art conservator, or AWP/MIP will pay the artist the conservator’s fee up to the stated price or market value (not to exceed $2000). Any work that is considered to be irreparable by the art conservator, or if it is lost or stolen, will be insured by AWP/MIP for the stated price or market value of each work for the duration of the exhibition, not to exceed $2000.

Sales of Artwork

  • Artwork sales and payments are directly between the artist and the buyer. AWP does not charge a sales commission fee.

  • We ask that artists notify AWP by email to rhares@mcmasterinnovationpark.ca of any sale resulting from our exhibits. We’ll put a red sticker on the label to indicate that the work has been sold, and we like to keep a tally of total sales.

  • Artists will not require the payment of any royalty for exhibited work.
